πŸ“š How do I rate books? πŸ“š

Giving your personal opinion regarding a certain book is pretty hard. I always wonder how other readers rate the books that they read. Before, I don’t really have a particular criteria as to how I give those precious stars on a book. All I know is that if I liked it, it’s a 5 and if I don’t, then it’s a 4 or 3. But lately, I’ve realized that it shouldn’t be that way anymore. Since I started to review books after being able to finish them, I should be fair and square. As a new year’s resolution, I have decided to formulate my very own way as to how I will rate the books that I’ve read and will be reading for 2016.

Here are they:

➑Did I enjoy the setting?
➑Did I find it unique and captivating?
➑For New Adult, Romance and Contemporary books: Is it romantic and jaw-dropping?
➑For Fantasy, Dystopia, Science Fiction and Mystery: Is it kickass and mind-blowing?

I will be giving 5 for settings that are thoroughly described and 4 (or below) if I had a hard time imagining the scenarios. On the other hand, for New adult/Romance/Contemporary books (which I rarely read except for Colleen Hoover’s), I prefer a romantic set up. For example, Stephanie Perkins’s Paris set up (for Anna and the French Kiss) is a 5 for me and a simple house/neighborhood or school set up (which is the most common) will have a 4 or less. Lastly, if the setting is too plain and boring I will not be afraid to give a 2.πŸ™ˆ

(Male and Female Antagonist and the Protagonist)

➑Are they appealing?
➑Did they lived up to the role that was assigned to them?
➑Did I felt their sorrow and grief?
➑Did I fell inlove with the male antagonist?
➑Is the female lead independent and witty?
➑Did the antagonist made me want to bitch slap him/her?

I don’t know, I have a lot of questions, so I chose to rate them individually. 5 for being able to reach me and get in my head and 4 or less for annoying the crap out of me.

I always give a 5 for authors who were able to made me feel what they wanted the readers to feel. If I finish a book in a day or 2 then it deserves a 5. If I get bored and it took me a week to finish a book, then it’s a 4. If it took me 2 weeks then it is definitely a 3. And if by any chance, it took me a month to finally read it then it is a 2. Okay, I usually finish the books that I have started so I don’t give a 1. Honestly, I am not a fan of the Did-Not-Finish thing.

If the plot twist caught me off-guard then it deserves a 5.

If I’ve already concluded what will happen even before I’ve read that part, I will give it a 4.

If the plot is too mainstream and I wasn’t surprised at all then it is a 3.

If it is freakin’ annoying, well, I’ll go for 2.

I don’t give a 1, that’s too much.

Okay, so, I’ll just get the average of the four criteria that were listed above to get my overall personal rating.πŸ“–

Here’s how I will be doing mine from now on. πŸ“š

Happy Reading everyone!😊

πŸ“š My Top 10 Books of 2015 πŸ“š

It took me so long to finalize my top 10 books of 2015 maybe because I encountered a lot of great stories last year.😊 It was a very awesome reading year for me!πŸ‘Œ I joined the book community last January 2015 (Happy Anniversary to me!πŸŽ‰) and I did not expect it to have this huge impact in my life.πŸ™Š The first book that I read last year was Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins which is very light and cute (not really for mommas like meπŸ˜›). I even joined the bandwagon and set my Goodreads reading challenge to 50.πŸ“š Surprisingly, I adored bookstagramming as well!πŸ™ˆ I ended 2015 with 61 read books and I think that it is not that bad for a beginner, right?πŸ˜† So, let us now move on to my very own list of favorite books for 2015.πŸ“–

This SJM’s creation is inspired by the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. I personally love reading retellings because I tend to expect a jaw-dropping twist. It is about a nineteen-year-old huntress named Feyre who accidentally killed a wolf while on a hunt. A beast, who happens to be one of the legendary immortal faeries, forcefully dragged her to their magical world as a punishment for what she did to his wolf-friend.

Janna’s Book Review #9 : Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover

Finding Cinderella (Hopeless, #2.5) by Colleen Hoover

90 pages

Published: October 14, 2013

ISBN 13: 9781476771434

Date Finished: October 16, 2015

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Finding Cinderella is a Novella from Colleen Hoover’s Hopeless and Losing Hope series. It is about Daniel (Holder’s bestfriend) and Six (Sky’s bestfriend) who happened to be soulmates. Yes you are reading it right! Soulmates.

What if you finally found the right person but you are just too stupid and so afraid enough to ask their name or even check out what they look like?πŸ˜’πŸ’”πŸ˜

A little over a year ago, two people found a temporary shelter on each other’s arms. But sadly, it is a one-night-or-day-or-whatever-kind-of-stand (and in a maintainance closet at school, how gross could that be?) πŸ˜‚ Daniel kept on replaying that moment with that girl (Code Name Cinderella❀️) in his mind since then, he did everything he can to find her, he looked for her everywhere, but how can you find someone if you do not have any idea on what they look like?😟

Daniel finally met Six at Sky’s house after a year, and he instantly fell head-over-heels with her. It is love-at-first-sight but how will Daniel and Sky react on the fact that it’s “them”. The couple in the closet! The mystery-couple-in-the-closet.πŸ™ˆ

If you want to get over with your reading slump, try reading this short story and fall inlove in an instant. Sometimes we meet a certain person at the wrong place and at the wrong time. But screw time! It is Love! True Love! ❀️❀️❀️

Mostly, the story took place at their respective bedrooms and houses so there is really nothing so special about it.

What?!!! It is Colleen Hoover, what would you expect from me?!πŸ™ˆ Ofcourse it’s a 5! It is a fucking 5! I envy her creativity! This plot made me tachycardic, and yes, my jaw dropped!😧

Two young adults bound together by personal issues and pure love.

Writing Style:

Just because I adore Colleen Hoover that much doens’t mean that the score is perfect! But hell yes! Her writing style is perfect! She is my favorite author (and Tarryn Fisher ofcourse😁) It is very realistic and I’m sure many young adults can relate to this story, it is not that common but it is real, it happens… And it sucks!

Over All Rating:

I just wished that it was not a novella! This one should be nothing but a stand-alone-novel because I craved and hoped for more.πŸ‘ŒπŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ™ŒπŸΌ
